4 Point Fabric Inspection System in Apparel Industry

Four point inspection system:
4 point inspection system is accepted by American Apparel Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and American Association of Quality Control (AAQC). In this system the defect points is measured in per square yards through the following maximum points allowed.

Defect length for warp and weft
Penalty Points
0 – 3”
1
3” – 6”
2
6” – 9”
3
Above 9”
4
Defect area for hole and opening
Penalty Points
1” or less than 1”
2
Above 1”

If the defect points is per 100 square yards of fabric cross 40 or more then it will be rejected.

Purpose of 4 point inspection system:
To find out the defects of the fabric in per 100 square yards.

Working procedure:
Generally fabric inspection process is done by the fabric inspection machine. For inspection of the fabric the following factors are to be considered.

  1. Dirt’s mark/stain mark
  2. Weaving and knitting defects
  3. Slub and knots
  4. Hole
The points are considered depending on these factors. Actual roll length and actual width of the fabric is also needed for the 4 point system. After collecting the points of the individual factor the total defect per 100 square yards is calculated by the following formula:

  Actual point counted                     36”
------------------------------------ x ------------------------------- x 100
    Actual roll length                  Actual width

Calculation:
Maximum points allowed:

We know,

  Actual point counted                     36”
------------------------------------ x ------------------------------- x 100
    Actual roll length                  Actual width

      117          36”
= ---------- x ------------------ x 100
      160        43.5”

= 60.51 per 100 yd

Conclusion:
Four point system is necessary for garments manufacturing. For measuring the faults of garments, this system is necessary. It is done according to the buyer instruction. We have to learn this experiment properly and have to know different fault of the garments and it’s point measuring systems.
